Our global priority of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 involves rethinking our relationship with nature. The children of today are the main stakeholders in this journey. It is imperative that they are included in decision-making processes and environmental governance. This is the vision that inspired WWF-India to launch the Model Conference of Parties, or MCOP, in 2020.
The Model Conference of Parties aims to shape environmentally conscious, active citizens who can navigate real-world challenges and lead the way to a sustainable future.
After three years of virtual editions, WWF-India's Model Conference of Parties in 2023 is taking place in a hybrid format.
The MCOP, or Model Conference of Parties, is a simulation of the global biodiversity conference called the Conference of Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP).
The MCOP serves as a platform where children can raise their concerns on environmental issues and chart the path from intention to consensus to action.
To be able to create a long-lasting, positive impact for people and the planet, children need to think as global citizens and support each other in their diverse efforts.
The theme for the MCOP4, Creating Green Networks, aims to develop the ideas of global citizenship in student delegates and highlight how collaboration and the power of young voices can drive change.
The Model Conference of Parties includes interactive sessions and workshops in which 72 student delegates from India's 28 States and 8 Union Territories are mentored by experts to:
