MODEL
CONFERENCE
OF PARTIES 5

4 - 5 JULY 2024 | Virtual

10 - 12 JULY 2024 | Delhi

WHAT IS THE MCOP?

Our roadmap to a sustainable future includes clear global goals—attaining the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, reversing biodiversity loss by 2030, and achieving net zero emissions by 2050. To meet these goals, we must transform our relationship with nature. Leading this transformation are young people, who can think creatively, reimagine the business-as-usual approach, and take bold action for nature.

WWF-India’s Model Conference of Parties (MCOP), first launched in 2020, is a simulation of the global Conference of the Parties under the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP). The MCOP serves as a platform for young people to participate in environmental governance and conservation action. Through skill-building sessions and locally implemented projects, the MCOP fosters environmentally conscious, active citizens who can navigate real-world challenges and build a sustainable future.

In December 2022, the CBD COP15 adopted the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KM-GBF), committing to urgent action for nature by 2030. An imporant target, '30x30' (thirty-by-thirty), aims to safeguard 30% of Earth's land, sea and freshwater ecosystems by 2030—which is for conserving biodiversity and combating climate change.

The theme for MCOP5, “Generation 30” highlights how the youth are leading action towards achieving ‘30x30’ by advocating for nature, mobilising communities, and driving change to restore and conserve ecosystems.
