When we think of fighting climate change, we imagine global climate conventions, transitioning to renewable energy resources, decarbonising industries, reforestation, and climate-resilient infrastructure. But what if we told you that fighting climate change could start with a water bottle, a light switch, or a simple conversation with a friend?
This Earth Day, celebrated on 22 April 2025, marks its 55th anniversary with the powerful theme: “Our Power, Our Planet.” It’s a call to action for individuals and institutions to shift to renewable energy sources—solar, wind, geothermal, and hydro—by tripling global clean energy production by 2030. It is a reminder that the power of people can reshape even the most entrenched systems. With climate solutions within our reach, each of us has a role to play in building a cleaner, healthier, and more equitable world.

And yes, that role can start with something as simple—and fun—as a game. Introducing our Earth Day Bingo: nine easy, actionable steps you can take today to make a difference for the planet. You can do them at home, in school, or outside.

Let’s break down the actions and how they connect to the bigger picture.
- Turn off extra lights – It’s easy to forget, but flipping the switch off when you leave a room saves energy and helps reduce fossil fuel use.
- Step outside and observe nature – Take a mindful moment to connect with your surroundings—birdsong, breeze, bark textures, it all counts. Explore more with our Biodiversity Explorer Kit.
- Share ONE clean energy fact with a friend – Knowledge is power. Take this Earth Hour quiz, learn something new, and tell someone the fact.
- Unplug devices when not in use – Even in “sleep mode,” gadgets consume energy. Unplugging helps you cut down on what’s known as phantom energy.
- Carry your own bottle – Plastic pollution harms ecosystems and takes significant energy to produce and eliminate. Using a reusable bottle helps reduce waste and your carbon footprint. Learn more in our course All About Plastics.
- Use stairs instead of a lift – Every time you skip the elevator, you reduce energy demand and get a mini workout while you’re at it!
- Learn what “net zero” means – Net zero is key in fighting climate change and shaping a greener future. Watch this short explainer video to understand how it works.
- Earn a certificate on One Planet Academy – OPA offers free digital courses on climate, biodiversity, water, and more. Pick a course, complete it, and earn a certificate!
- Collect litter from your neighbourhood – You don’t need to organise a huge clean-up. Even a 10-minute solo effort helps restore spaces, protect wildlife, and set a great example.
